MANGASHI: History of Manga Pre-Publication

In France, manga is a hit. Sales are exploding, shelves are filling up, communities are growing... and yet, one format emblematic of manga culture remains difficult to find in France: pre-publication magazines, or mangashi.
It is this paradox that Maxime Gendron, a manga enthusiast since childhood, explores in depth in his brand new book:
“MANGASHI: History of Manga Pre-Publication”.
An analysis of pre-publication magazines from a new angle: comparing the pre-publication of manga in Japan and that of comics and then manga in France.
MANGASHI offers a comparative and structured analysis of prepublication, through 3 main parts:
Pre-publication of manga in Japan: its history, its codes, its major players.
Pre-publication of comics in France
Pre-publication of the manga in France
All illustrated by clear diagrams, a clean layout, and recent examples such as the Manga Issho project: https://www.kana.fr/produit/manga-issho-1/
More than just a book, MANGASHI is also the culmination of a personal and passionate project. Maxime Gendron was involved in every step: research, writing, layout... right up to the crowdfunding campaign launched on Ulule.
The book will soon be available for pre-order in our store!
