Mangashi, history of manga pre-publication
Why is there no Shonen Jump in France?
Pre-publication magazines—or mangashi —are at the heart of the manga industry in Japan. Yet, in France, they are completely absent. There are no Shonen Jump , Ribon , or Big Comics on our newsstands. This absence is all the more surprising given that we are the second-largest manga-consuming country after Japan, and the market has been experiencing explosive growth over the past 10 years.
How can we explain this paradox? Why have these magazines never found their place in France?
To answer these questions, I invite you to explore the pre-publication of the manga in Japan and France.
You'll discover why these magazines shaped the Japanese industry and why they never found a home here. But most importantly, you'll understand why this situation could soon change!
