Ryunosuke Akutagawa is a Japanese writer, born March 1, 1892 in Tokyo and died July 24, 1927 in the same city. His literary work mainly consists of short stories, such as "Imogayu", "Yabu no naka" and "Jigokuhen", all inspired by traditional tales from "Konjaku monogatari shu" and "Uji Shui monogatari". As part of a collaboration, Tite Kubo illustrated the covers to encourage young Japanese readers to discover the classics of Japanese literature.
Summary of the work: In Hell Screen the Japanese writer Ryūnosuke Akutagawa presents a new version of "Uji Shūi Monogatari", first published in 1918. Hell Screen is narrated by a servant who is not directly involved in the events, but who witnessed them or heard about them. The story centers on the artist Yoshihide, considered "the greatest painter in the country", who is often commissioned to create works for the lord of Horikawa, who also employs Yoshihide's daughter in his mansion and who, according to rumor has it, she would have taken her as a mistress...
